Mother had just taken the shells out of the toaster oven.<\/span> Mona walked in as the girls started coloring the hot shells with crayons. She watched as the crayons melted onto the shells.<\/p>\n \u201cWow those are so pretty!\u201d Mona exclaimed.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, we are making shell necklaces!\u201d said Shahla proudly.<\/p>\n \u201cWho are you giving them to?\u201d asked Mona.<\/p>\n \u201cShahla!\u201d Mona said. \u201cDon\u2019t you know that art is made for sharing! Right Mom!\u201d as she looked at Mother expectantly.<\/p>\n Mother smiled and said, \u201cWell think about it, does an artist paint pictures just for themselves, or to share with the world? How about a musician? Does he make music just for himself? Or does he play for everyone who will listen? Being a creator of something is an attribute we learn from God, the Creator. A creation is meant to be shared. It is a way we can serve mankind.\u201d<\/p>\n Just then Asma and Riaz walked in. \u201cAnd service to mankind is one of the main reasons we are in this world, right, Mom?\u201d put in Asma.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, service helps us grow! And that is another reason we are here, right, Mom?\u201d added Riaz. \u201cWe learned that in Children\u2019s Class!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat wise children I have!\u201d said Mother proudly.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, service is important! I know that,\u201d said Mona. \u201cI have had teachers who were so sweet that you could tell she was a teacher because she loved children! And then, I have had other teachers that seemed that it was just a job to them, and they couldn\u2019t wait for the day to be over!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt is the same with doctors or nurses or even cooks or waiters, or any job,\u201d put in Asma. \u201cYou can tell if they are doing it for the money or because they really want to help.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWait a minute!\u201d said Riaz, loudly. \u201cDon\u2019t you know what happens to a lighted candle?? IT MELTS!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cExactly!\u201d said Mother laughing, and everyone else joined in. \u201cWe should give our whole life to the service of mankind and every person we meet. All the teachings and prayers of Bah\u00e1\u2019u\u2019ll\u00e1h and \u2018Abdu\u2019l-Bah\u00e1 talk about that.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWow!\u201d said Shahla. She had been working on her shell necklace as everyone was talking. \u201cI just thought being a kid was to have fun and do what you were told to do. Mom\u2019s cooking, Dad\u2019s working! But maybe you could be a real policeman,\u201d said Mona, laughing.\r\n\r\n\u201cWell, whatever you do in life, whether it is as a volunteer or for your work, if you do it for the sake of service to humanity, it is considered by God to be worship! Just as if it were a prayer,\u201d said Mother. \u201cAnd it will bring you joy!\u201d\r\n\r\n\u201cOK, OK, we get it!\u201d said Shahla. \u201cI will give my necklace to my teacher!\u201d\r\n\r\n\u201cAnd I will give mine to my Mother,\u201d added Chihiro. The girls both smiled at each other\u2026as they realized\u2026 it did give them joy.\r\n\r\n Mother showed them how to put the glitter glue on their shells, then glue on the little pearls and put on the little ring so that they could thread the elastic string through it to finish the necklaces. The rest of the children watched with interest.
